An Improper ProposalAn Improper Proposal by Cheryl Bolen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thought this one was pretty good. Some readers may feel Sally was too much of a doormat and George isn't particularly likable through at least the first half of the book, I found them both fascinating and charming in their own way. Their positive growth throughout the book was really nice to read. The villainy was a little more extreme than I expected, but that added a nice edge to the book. I was especially taken with little Sam and his delayed speech. I can relate. I was actually wishing we could have seen him make more progress by the end of the book, but when I really think about it, this was much more realistic because in cases like his it's likely it would take much longer than the scope of the book to truly see him make significant progress. So kudos to Ms. Bolen for including a special needs child who is loved so very deeply by his parents and sibling.

A Certain Wolfish Charm (Westfield Wolves, #1)A Certain Wolfish Charm by Lydia Dare

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent! Not too brain-taxing, but not too fluffy, either. I loved all the characters and will definitely be buying more from this series. It may sound odd, but one of the things I really liked was the short chapter length. It somehow moved the story along nicely, and I was able to read the shorter chunks in between all the other stuff I was needing to accomplish.

AdriftAdrift by Amber Skyze

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Nice MMF story about a male bi couple and a BBW, with some steamy sex. This was pretty OK, kind of short and probably would have benefited from more character and story development, but I was actually in the mood for a shorter story so this worked pretty well for me. I didn't love Kari at all, but the editing was good and I'd read more from this author.

My Lord Jack (Highland Fling Romance)My Lord Jack by Hope Tarr

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Caution: Spoiler-ish :)

Do NOT judge a book by its cover, especially if you're reading one of the original releases of this awesome book. The original cover is very dated and will tend to get lost in your TBR pile, so please give it a chance anyway. The hero, Jack, is one of the sweetest heroes I've read in a very long time - he's a hangman (!) and a VIRGIN. He loves animals, keeps chickens for their eggs and companionship and would never think of butchering them for food, and counts his pets among his only friends - or so he thinks. But you'll see that he's actually much loved by most of the people in his village. He's big, reliable, steadfast, lovable and utterly delicious.

The villain is a dark and twisted character who is completely beyond redemption, and he makes a nice contrast to the sweet hero. He's believable without being overdone.

The end is rather surprising -- and I won't get too spoiler-ish here -- because it has several twists that I didn't expect, which made for an especially pleasing read. Of course it has a HEA, never fear. :)

Definitely recommended.

I didn't adore Isabel at all, but I'm glad I kept reading when I was tempted to stop because overall this was a good book. 3 1/2 stars.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Don't tell my mother, but I'm a sucker for a good phone sex story. This was very good, nice & steamy. I especially appreciated that Will & Rowan were straightforward with their feelings about each other, and the angst didn't drag out too long.

Born to Be Wilde (Wilde Series, #8)Born to Be Wilde by Janelle Denison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I generally like it when an author gives us not just one but TWO love stories in one book (and not an anthology). The extra bonus of Sydney & Daniel was nice, even though if I had read a book with just Sydney as the only heroine I probably wouldn't have finished it. Joel & Lora were a good couple, even if I didn't fall in love with them or their chemistry.

The Proposal: A NovelThe Proposal: A Novel by Mary Balogh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I won a free copy of this from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. And it's been my pleasure. Mary Balogh has shown time & again that she's a truly gifted author who knows how to write a great romance. Hugo and Gwen really give their relationship a lot of thought and consideration and don't just jump in. It was kind of nice to see that, because some romances I've read seem to go from zero to sixty way too quickly. They're like, "Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?" Here they explore their differences and make educated decisions about whether or not they should consider a future together. It speaks well for the probable longevity of their union.

Seeing Hugo relax and forgive himself for his part in the war was very moving, and it was a nice change of pace to have a physically imperfect heroine.

This is the kind of sweet book that I'll be delighted to pass along to my mother, because although it does have a couple of love scenes, they're very tastefully done.
