Richard Ross has always been the "white sheep" of his scandalous family. He's the half brother of Christian Delornay who runs the pleasure house that he inherited from their mother. Violet Lennox was Richard's first love, but she supposedly died years ago and he mourned her deeply. Now she's back from the dead and masquerading as a man, Vincent Lennox. She and her twin brother Jack are wrapped up in some dangerous intrigue, and Richard has been asked to help them.

Richard and Emily's mother left her journal with secrets from the past that might be better left hidden, but which may ultimately help Richard stop blaming his father for his parents' disastrous marriage. This wraps up some loose ends from previous books and the reconciliation between Richard and his father is a nice addition to the end of the series.

Simply Scandalous includes a delightful bonus love story between Richard's sister Emily and longtime family friend and Pleasure House employee, Ambrose. Ambrose is African American and he feels he's so far beneath Emily that he has no right to even consider being with her. I enjoyed their romance at least as much as the one between Richard and Violet, maybe more. Ambrose has been one of my favorite characters throughout the series.

There are several story lines happening in this book, so it really is helpful to have read previous books in the series. This is the last and final book in the series, and I'm really sad to see it end. This is definitely one of my top favorite series of all time. Kate Pearce has created a world that has many twists and turns, passion, intrigue, and characters that I will never forget. This is a must read for historical erotic romance fans.
